[x300] How Times Have Changed!

I got an E mail from my sister a week or so ago telling me
that my father had died. I had not seen or spoke with him
for 26 years, so the impact was not very severe. What
surprised me was the way things are handled these days.
When my Grandfather passed away, there was a wake and
service at the funeral home, a small service at the
graveside, a casket, plot and a really nice marble head
stone with an obituary in the paper and tons of sympathy
cards, not to mention a huge after party back at the
house! With my father, cremation, ashes sent to the house,
placed on the shelf in the hall closet with the pillow the
dog chewed up. No obit., no services, no anything! I sent
my Mom a sympathy card, but it was likely the only one she
got… I suppose when my time comes, someone will remove
my wallet, and leave me on the curb on trash day!!! Is this
the way it’s all done these days??? Brandon (clutching my

Wrong forum or not Brandon, my sympathies to you and your family. I know
what you mean though about how times have changed. The custom when I was
younger was no less than a three day viewing with a massive funeral to-do
and lunch before all went quiet.

Cremation was hardly ever thought of then but now it’s all the rage. I
figure that I’m not going to die and if I do I won’t know it so I’ve never
thought about how I should be disposed of however I’m hoping my loved ones
would think that trash day would be a bit harsh, not to mention that we only
have pick up one day a week on Friday’s. I’d get a bit ripe if I kicked on
a Saturday. Although, I did just put the Xmas tree out a couple of weeks
ago so I know that the hauler would be able to accommodate me ~:-D>
