The trunk used to open with the remote fob and the growler
switch on the trunk lid. Then the valet switch was hit and
since then the trunk can only be opened with the key. I
have disconnected the battery for @10 mins to try reset the
valet mode, without success. I have tried to open and lock
the door with the master key to undo the valet mode without
success. The trunk solenoid switch is ok, the trunk relay
is ok, and the fuse is ok.

the wires that power the lock become damaged at the hinge.–

Thanks, Win for your response. I will recheck the wire
bundle at the hinge. The electrical trunk opener had been
working and with the lid locked with not movement or stress
to the wire bundle, the valet switch was engaged. Since
then, then it failed. If there is a easy way to reset the
valet mode, that would be lot easier than tracing and short
checking the wire bundle.
In the X308, the only way to turn off the valet mode is by locking and
unlocking the car with the remote fob. I am not sure if the X300 works on
the same principle but you may want to give this a go before delving into
wiring etc.

Well this is an old topic. I just recieved a 1996 XJ6 Jaguar last night. My daughter was hitting buttons and sure enough, she hit the valet switch. Now the electronic trunk wouldn’t work. I tried unlocking locking car etc. Nothing - could only unlock trunk with key. But then i turned the key in truck to unlock and actually did it 2 times. Voila!! valet now off and electronic truck opener woring with trunk button and also trunk button on dash! Who knows, maybe I helped someone??
another odd thing I found was when I i turn key more than 2 times in drivers door, it normally unlocks driver door and then unlocks passenger doors; BUT- if I turn key to unlock a 3rd time, the rear courtesy lights keep flickering and there is a clicking sound clicking away at what seems just bhind drivers seat. strange- it just continues. Locking the car with key and unlocking just 1 time or 2 times and it’s fine. Ideas Comments?
