[x300] My 1995 X300 and Rust

Last Friday I got my X300 back from the bodyshop.
Looking good again.

Two front wingpanels, left and right, replaced by used ones.
The old ones were rusted through where they meet the sill.

175,- Euro each for the used ones.
750,- Euro for the bodyshop.

Last year I had a hefty bill for replacing all four dampers, the
brake discs, the brake pads and most of the rubbers
of the drive train.
2400,- Euro.

But the car runs fine now, no more bumping on the bad roads. Quiet as
it should be.
Looking good!

Hello Jos,

How Great! I know how you feel to have you car back as it was meant
to be…all in one piece and quiet.

Like you I have spent a lot of money to keep my ride Purrrfect.
A Jag that is less that, takes away from the joy. Even if no one
else can tell.

It does amaze me, how much money we will spend on these cars,
before we give up on them. To be honest, I am sure some of us, have
and will spend more than the car is worth, just to keep them in tip
top shape.

After all, what else can bring us so much pleasure with just
looking at her, running a wash spong over her, or turning her on?

Cheers,

Dave–

The dreaded Tin worm is a weird beastie. Some cars will get
it after just a couple of years and some will last 10 or
more and never see it even though they are the same make and
model.
I am extremely fortunate in that when I first bought my car
I went over it like a jealous husband checking his wife for
bites after 9 months at sea. The only sign of rust that I
saw, and I apologise for not knowing the proper name of the
part, was where a silvery panel meets a painted panel going
from left to right across 80% of the width of the car just
above and behind the headlights. That, and the interior,
were main points that made me want this car above a few
others that I had been to see.–
