[x300] OBD2 Tool

Hi all.
I am thinking about buying an OBD 2 tool for my jaguar x300.
Does anyone know if they are suitable for these cars.
Mine is a 1995 3.2 (Sov)
Straight 6.
UK spec.
Thanks

Rob,
Yes, your car can use an OBD2 reader/scanner.Big difference
between the simple readers and the latest scan tools like
AutoEnginuity.Which do you want?–

Hi, I have also been thinking about one of these, especialy one
which connects to a laptop so you can see whats going on as the car
is driven. Can any of these units be used to adjust the timing /
fuel mixture ect and then test drive watching the sensor outputs?

John,
If you check the archives there were several Listers a month
ago that were buying the AutoEnginuity. You might email them
and ask how it worked & let us all know your synopsis?
A simple code reader is only about $50 here but it is much
too limited to help with the real problems. If notice the
problems on this forum ,many are idle/misfire/no
start/driveability. If the owners of those cars were able to
post a comprehensive scan along with their symptoms I
speculate we could diagnose the exact problem and avoid
wasting money on needless parts and needless mechanic time.
It all depends how useful the AutoEnginuity software is.
That question is better answered by those who recently
bought it(540 touring?)than by the marketing hyperbole on
the AutoEnginuity website. If it works well,it would pay for
itself by saving us much money and time.–

This will sound like heresy, so read on…I have been running an
XJ6 for 7 years now and have a ProScan laptop scanner and a cheap
Pep Boys code reader. I use the code reader all the time, but have
yet to use the scanner. In reality, there are few instances when
the scanner is needed. The primary one is mixture analysis. Until
the mixture gets haywire, the scanner is not of much value. The ECU
will set codes quick enough to analyze problems. I recently had a
misfire detection on #4 cylinder that led me to a bad fuel injector
at minimum pulse width only, but required analysis in addition to
the code to find the solution. The scanner would not have done any
better. So before getting out there, you might start with a code
reader and see how far it gets you.–
