[x300] P1517 code

I had my auto enginuity OBD scanner hooked up to my 2003XJR
and up popped P1517.

So I’ve been checking on the JTIS documentation what this
could be. Could be related to the transmission rotary switch
and or gear selector cable settings.

Still, engine starts fine. So not sure whether I should do
anything else. The last thing I want is my car failing to
start, because that tends to happen at the most inconvenient
moments.

I’m looking at the JTIS information and I dont see any
specific diagnostics section for this particular P code.
There’s a section about how to adjust the gear selector
cable. Can’t find that rotary switch anywhere. JTIS mentions
a linear and a brake switch, but where’s the rotary switch.

If I look at the P1517 it could be as simple as high
resistance in this switch. Depending on where this switch
sits and what it looks like that might be solvable with a
blast of electro cleaner.

Any thought?

Erase it and check it again. Some times an error it’s not real.

Already tried that. Keeps coming back and it keeps starting fine!
So either I don’t worry, or I figure out some course of action.

Neil,
Thanks,
But I’m getting a bit confused. These are very different
from what my JTIS manual shows, or what the OBD codes on
this site shows?

Jeroen, these came from this site:

I don’t know any more than that.–

Hm, I’ll need to look into this some more. I’ll probably post a
question on this OBDII forum. Seems there are different sets of
Jaguar specific code floating around.

I’m pretty sure some of them are type specific. When looking up the
DTC’s on the JTIS CD you do need to specify type and year of your
car.

So it might be as simple as that. If not I’ll have to dig a bit
deeper, because I wasn’t aware my XJR had a ‘‘IMRC Intake Manifold
Runner Control’’. It might, but I haven’t come across it yet.

I’m visiting the Jaguar dealer tomorrow. They’ve invited me for a
free-inspection. Being Dutch, I never pass on anything free. And
they have 10 iPads they’ll be handing out as well. Let’s see what
comes out of this.

Actually, it was the free inspection that prompted me to hook my
XJR up to my own OBD analyser. It’s all very well having a Jaguar
specialist figuring this out for free, but I want to make sure I
understand it myself. My car has always shown a few other (U) codes
as well. Never seem to do any harm. lets see what the specialist
says.

After the visit to the Jaguar dealer I’m taking the bumper of for
its respray, see my other post.

So I’m looking forward to an enjoyable Saturday, fiddling with my
car.

The JTIS codes for a specific model and MY should always
trump the general codes.

And Jeroen- If your dealer ‘‘friend’’ can’t find at least a
1000 euro or so of work you need, I would be suspicious of
him not being very good at his trade.–

Yes, they should, but here we have a case where we have a
specific code ie PS1517 that appears to have two different
meanings. So I’m thinking there are Jaguar specific codes
per model/year.

$1000,-- at an official Jaguar dealer doesn’t get you much
is my experience.–

So I had the dealer free check this morning. Came through
with flying colors!

I did check the codes with the mechanic. My definition for
P1517 as I found on my JTIS and as published on this site
were correct. No idea why this ODB site shows something
different, but it is incorrect!
