[x300] Questions about new ride

Hi all, I recently posted this same question in the wrong forum so
hopefully I’ll find help here.I just picked up a 1999 Vanden Plas
this week. Three
questions I am looking for help with. First, I only got 1 key and
remote. I am an E-bay seller and found remotes and keys there. I
see people say the keys can be programmed. What does that mean?
Second, Can any type of cell phones be made to work with the built
in handsfree system? And finally, Is remote start standard on these
cars? My Suburban starts by pressing lock and unlock at the same
time. This didnt work for the car so I was wondering if there was
another combination needed. Thanks for any help you can offer me.–

I have done absolutely no research into your specific problems. So please,
take my input at face value. In the interest of providing a small bit of
information I provide the following:

1a. There is much discussion on the archives relative to purchasing and
programming extra keys. Some dealers charge mega-bucks for this service,
others charge a reasonable amount.
1b. To purchase a remote, one must be cognizant of the frequency that the
car requires. This frequency is provided on the back of your current fob
(remote). Purchasing a remote from any source should then be ok. Once
purchased the fob needs to be programmed to the car. There is also
information in the archives on how to accomplish this. There’s a bit of
genuflecting to be done to get the new fob to work.
2. There doesn’t seem to be any seamless way to get a cell phone of the
current technology to work completely with your year car. AFAIK, the
steering stock and radio buttons will be useless. You can through the
purchase of some Bluetooth interface and compatible phone and then utilize
the current speakers and mic (if installed) to answer and make calls.
3. Remote starting is not a standard amenity of the VDP AFAIK.

Further to Jack’s reply, when purchasing a remote, it’s not enough
to make sure the frequency is the same as the one you already
have. There are several remotes for your car, they may all have
the same frequency and look the same but, they have different part
numbers. For example, part no LJA 2610 BB may look the same and,
have the same frequency as LJA 2610 BA but, it will not work. If
you see a fob on Ebay, check with the seller what the part number
is, before you purchase it, it’s on the reverse of the fob.

The above applies to UK and Europe but, I’m assuming it is the same
for USA too.–

I found out remote start was not even an option. I do not want to
mess with aftermarket setups. I have had other older jags in the
past and don’t want to deal with the electrics. The keys I will
order from the dealer. I got a price of $56.85 for a programmed key.
The phone is not worth messing with. My ugly bluetooth stuck to my
ear will do.I am working with someone on possibly purchasing a
remote from them. Thanks, Kevin–
