[x300] Remotely Confused

I’m a bit confused about the two different remotes … I have seen
the smaller oval-shaped remote going for sale on Ebay, advertised
as handling the 433 MHz in one ad and the 315 MHz frequency in
another ad … Same for the box-shaped style remote … I had
assumed until then that all the ovals were 315s and the box-shaped
units all 433s …

Did Jag make both styles to include both frequencies?–

The oval X300 remotes use both frequencies. The early remotes use
a different security receiver and 433MHz. Sometime in '96 the
receiver changed and the remote shifted to 315MHz.

I tried programming my '97 315MHz remotes to my '95 XJR and the
programming sequence wouldn’t complete – it would go into the mode
but not recognize the signal and the process would timeout.

Hopefully someone with X308 know-how can give you the differences
with the box shaped ones.–

If you try using the search function, you will find quite abit of
information about the remotes for an X300, the different
frequencies, how to program them, etc. To the best of my
knowledge, no X300 came with the ‘‘box shaped’’ remote. Those were
used on the XJS. If you are unceratin as to what you have, and do
not want to look at the control module, and do not want to pay a
dealer to diagnose your requirements, perhaps you could buy one of
each type and see which one works. You can then advertise the
wrong one on Ebay or Jag Lovers.–

where on the car is the ‘‘control module’’ located?

Also, I removed the 4’’ stubby plastic antenna off the rear window,
believing it was for the original factory car phone … Was it an
essential part of the security system, though? < ulp! >–
