[x300] source for 4.0 V8 cam timing tools

Hi All –

I’m wanting to change out the secondary tensioners on my 2000 XJ8
as precautionary measure, but am floored by the cost of the Jag
special tools needed to lock the cams and crankshaft.

I’ve searched the web and frankly, paying as much for what amounts
to a simple milled piece of steel as I will for the tensioners
themselves seems a bit much.

Anyways, does anyone know a good place to source these tools or to
rent them?

Cheers,

Steve S.

Steve,

If you search the archives, there have been a few listers who have
made the tools themselves. I seem to remember that some have given
detailed instructions on how to make. Or, if you find someone who
has, they might be willing to lend, hire or sell them to you.–

Thanks – I’ll search and see what I come up with. If I can find
good instructions, perhaps I’ll make up a bunch and have them
available for others.

Best,
