[x300] X300 Heater Pump and Valve- Relay location?

The valve appears operative (I have had it apart), and the
pump works fine (I have also had it apart). But the VOM
tells me neither is getting 12V. Nothing. Nada.

Fuses appear fine. HVAC panel is not throwing codes.
Research here suggests the fused circuit feeds a relay(s),
which supplies the pump and valve.

So, possibly a bad relay(s)? Where would same be located?

TIA.

The HVAC controls the valve and pump, via the ECT sensor when the
coolant is above a preset temperature; did you do your checks with
a ‘‘cold’’ engine?

Okay should be energising then, I may be inclined to check the ECT
via OBD2, or simply measure its resistance. As the engines fueling
can appear to run sort of okay without it operating correctly.
(Substitute values are used by the ecu when the sensor is out of
expected range).

I haven’t got the schematics at my current location, but from
memory the valve and pump are controlled independently. (I do not
know why this is the case).

If you still have problems, I should have access to the schematics
in a couple of days.

Thx., Jamie, I’d be obliged if you would. The heater pump and
valve relay(s) is possibly under the bonnet/hood, or perhaps
in the right footwell panel.

I’ve had the contacts in an obscure rely in a Volvo wear and
arc, and the car commenced stalling sporadically. A b*gger to
diagnose. But it’s surprising what a new relay will do-
here’s hoping the problem is only a relay(s) in my X300).–

Hi Cressy,
The Heater pump relay is situated in the L/H engine bay.
If you remove the plastic shroud between the L/H headlamp and the
air filter housing you will see a row of 4 relays. The one you want
is the 3rd one in from the wing (fender).
The heater valve is operated direct from the Climate control module
and has no interfacing relay.
There are 2 fuses controlling the heater pump - Fuse 8 (15amp) L/H
engine bay fuseboard. Fuse14 - (10 amp) R/H healboard.
It may also be worth checking the Climate control module fuses.
They are - Fuse 12 (10 amp),R/H healboard and Fuse18 (10 amp), L/H
healboard.
When you check the heater pump relay ensure the cables to the relay
base are OK. These are known to corrode and break-away.
Best of luck,
Mike–
