[x300] X350 Re-programming key fob

The battery went flat in the fob before I had chance to change it.
Once the battery was changed, the fob didn’t work.

Don’t go to the stealership to get it re-programmed!

Having tried this procedure (procedure for X308) on my X350 it
worked.

1 Lift headlight flasher and turn ignition key to position 1
2 Release headlight flasher then flash headlights 4 times (hear
bleep after 4th flash)
3 Press the ‘lock’ or ‘unlock’ button on one of the fobs (hear
bleep)
4 Press the ‘lock’ or ‘unlock’ button on the other fob 4 times
(hear bleep each time).
5 Turn ignition switch back to position 0 (another bleep)

Sorted!!

If you want to programme 3 fobs, go as far as step 3 then press
the ‘lock’ or ‘unlock’ button on one of the remaining 2 fobs,
followed by pressing the button on the third fob 3 times.(bleep
each time).

(Basically you have to press 5 ‘lock’ or ‘unlock’ buttons after
flashing the headlights 4 times.)

Hope this helps someone.–

Anyone programmed key fobs on a X350? I wanted to know if the
procedure Phil listed below assigns each Key Fob to one of the
memory positions (like my '97 did). The dealer gave me
another procedure which did not work, but before I try the
below, I wanted to confirm that this will assign memory
positions to the respective key fobs. I tried emailing Phil
directly but his email address must have changed.

Thanks in advance.–

Gordon,

I had this tucked away for future ref. I haven’t tested it yet but
it’s worth a shot;

Key Fob programming - Four button remote.

NOTE: When carrying out steps 4 to 6 below, all current
transmitters will be erased from memory. Ensure all transmitters to
be programmed are available before proceeding.

NOTE: If at any stage two chirps are emitted, then an error has
occurred, if this is the case, the process has to be repeated from
step 1. When carrying out steps 1 to 7, ensure no other
transmitters are operated within range of the system (which should
not happen if you have all of the key fobs with you in the car and
no one else is playing with them).

  1. Open driver door (door must be open throughout the programming
    process).

  2. Pull directional indicator stalk to headlight flash position and
    hold.

  3. Insert ignition key and turn to auxiliary position (position I,
first click), then release the directional indicator
    Stalk right away.

  4. Within 4 seconds start to flash headlights five times by
pulling/releasing the stalk repeatedly; at the
fourth/fifth time you hear a chirp from the sounder and the PATS
Red LED security dome will flash once).

At this point all transmitters will be erased from the cars system.
The next step will program all of your push button remotes to your
car.

  1. NOTE: Up to five transmitters can be programmed. Now simply push
the transmitter button (any of the four buttons) on the remote that
is in the ignition, and then within 5 seconds push any of thefour
buttons on the next transmitter, etc. For each transmitter you do,
it will be acknowledge by a chirp from sounder, and the PATS LED
will flash once (Do not repeat the complete sequence if you make
a mistake mid way as the first transmitter will be erased if you
    do).

  2. Turn ‘OFF’ the ignition and remove the key, (acknowledge chirp
from sounder, and the PATS LED will flash once).

  3. Close driver door. Now check each transmitters functions on
each of the four buttons on each of your Fobs.

All should be working just fine. If not try again from step 1. It
may take two trys to get it correct as the
procedure is all about the speed, timing and doing it smoothly.

The PATS LED is the security dome in the middle of the dash, right
up near the front window. If you make a mistake during the
process, simply start all over from the beginning.

If your car has all audible alarms disabled (as mine does) you
won’t get the chirps, you just have to follow the LED flashing.
You must flash quickly, then hit a button on one remote, then the
other, then turn off the key. I would say it should take 5 seconds
or less after releasing the stalk.

Good Luck

Yes.

Put the unused seat belt around the back of the seat and plug it in
as normal.

Hi Roger, have you tried this?:

1 . Make sure the front passenger seat is unoccupied.
Steps 2 - 5 must be completed within 60 seconds.

2 . Turn on the ignition to the RUN position (do not start
the engine).

3 . Buckle the driver seat belt buckle until the seat belt
warning lamp extinguishes.

4 . Unbuckle the drivers seat belt buckle until the seat
belt warning lamp illuminates.

5 . Repeat 3 and 4 a further eight times.

6 . Upon the action that will result in the driver seat
belt buckle being unbuckled for the ninth time, the
cluster will exhibit a single chime. The single chime is
acknowledgment that the beltminder feature has been
disabled.

The beltminder feature will be disabled until the
aforementioned process (steps 1 - 6 are repeated). Upon
repeating the process, the beltminder feature will be
reactivated–

So, the only thing I’m nervous about is the comment that
that it erases the transmitters from memory. No problem as
long as it is erasing the memory locations, not the
lock/unlock function. There’s something wrong with my door
lock so I can’t use the key to unlock the car. So I can’t
erase the transmitters.

I got an owners manual and tried those instructions for
memory, but it doesn’t make sense. It says to press the
memory button, (the LED lights). The you are supposed to
press the memory number, followed by one of the buttons on
the remote. You have to press both while the LED on the
memory button is lit. However, as soon as I press the
memory number, the memory light goes out, so pressing a
button on the remote doesn’t do anything. A bit
frustrating. :(–

Gordon,

Just out of interest, what seems to be wrong with your door lock?

I have noticed a problem with X350 inner door handles wearing and
sticking out all the time, and I’m in the process of writing a
piece on it. If that’s similar to your problem then let me know and
I’ll paste the text here for you.

This method worked like a charm to reprogram 2 remote key fobs on my 2004 XJ8, one of them which worked when I got the car last year but had suddenly lost its programming a week ago, and one which I recently bought new on eBay. Being able to do this myself saved me the $115.00 that the Jaguar dealer charges to reprogram each fob. Thanks to all the good folks who contribute their knowledge and experiences to this website!
