[x300] XJ8 security locking control module/ECU

The remote central locking on my XJ8 failed last year. The range at
which the remote key-fobs would operate the central locking had
been diminishing for both key-fobs, and did not improve after
changing their batteries, until it finally stopped responding
altogether, obliging me to use the key in the door to lock or
unlock the car. Attempts to reprogram the key-fobs have been
unsuccessful (using the standard protocol) with their signal being
undetected by the ECU.
I would like to inspect the security locking control module (part
no: LNC2600JE, I think), in particular check it’s connections with
the remote-locking aerials on the rear window, and if neccessary
replace this unit to get the remote locking working again.
Can anyone tell me exactly where this module is located on the
XJ8, and whether it is straightforward to replace? Anyone out there
who has done this replacement? All replies welcome.–

The module is located under the fuse panel in the trunk (boot)
towards the rear from the battery.–

Thanks for the information. I’ve purchased a replacement and hope
to swap the module this weekend.–

Please report back how it goes. Some folks have claimed that the
module swap will require programming, but I bet only the key fob
will need to be re-associated. shead some light on the subject,
please.–

Hey there, the same thing happened with my '02 XJ8. I disconnected
the battery for 30 mins, after reconnection, the fobs worked fine
once more. Worth a go!!–

Thanks for your ideas. I’ve purchased both a new fob and a ‘‘locking
and control’’ module, just in case my original fobs had become
faulty. Obviously I’ll try reprogamming the new fob first, to rule
out that the problem has been with the old fobs. It had occurred to
me also that the new module may require to be coded with the ECU
before it’ll work, and that (horror of horrors!) it may then not be
possible to swap back the old one without it being recoded too. Can
you think of any way of finding out for sure whether recoding will
be required, as I’m pretty sure that the car will not run without a
functioning module? Presumably this is something which only a
franchised Jaguar dealer could do?
I don’t think that disconnecting the battery will make any
difference in my case, as I’ve disconnected it a couple of times
for re-charging without the remote locking showing any signs of
working again.
Incidentally, when I’ve tried to reprogram the fobs, using the
headlamp-flashing protocol, I get a single brief glow of the red
light on the gear-stick aasembly when I’ve finished flashing the
headlamps four times, but no audible signal. Pressing the
lock/unlock buttons on either of my existing fobs produces no
response whatsoever. Should there be an audible signal (as is
described in the protocol)?–

It sounds like it went into learning mode if the LED lit up.

Make sure you press the remote buttons a total of 5 times (as I
think I have mentioned before. This is required to complete the
programing procedure). In fact, if one of the remotes you have is
faulty it would not hurt to press many more times. i.e 5 times on
each remote doing them alternatly.

You should then get a flash of the led (after 5 good ones), or wait
along time before turning the ignition off.

I don’t think the security ecu disables the engine. This is all
done at the front end of the car. So I wouldn’t worry about
swapping security ecu’s over.–
