X358 overheating tied to A/C

I have a 2008 X358 4.2L that is overheating quickly when idling on an incline or sitting in traffic, but only when the air conditioning is on. With the A/C off, temperature gauge is steady. Can anyone provide any insights on the cause?

Thank you.

Hello Dan - in general, whenever the AC compressor is used (to give cold air) extra cooling is needed for the engine - this is usually through the use of an extra fan for the radiator, which is activated when the AC circuit is activated - start by looking and see if the extra fan is coming on when the AC is activated - Tex.
