Greetings,
Does anyone have a suggestion regarding the closest match to the original
series 3 foglights from the Cibie family. I have come across a number of used
rectangular Cibie models, but wondered which style/model comes the closest,
since I doubt I will ever find a decent used set from a series III sedan.
Thanks for any help or suggestions

Paul’s Jaguar had the originals available last year as part of a special
purchase. These are the right thing, down to the Jaguar part number on the
box.
You’d have to check with him to see if he bought extras to keep in stock, or
if he can get some more. IIRC, Paul was able to offer an attractive price
because he was buying quite a few from Europe and having them shipped over
as part of a cargo container shipment, saving a large amount on shipping.===================================================

When not buy a set of the authentic ones, presently on sale from Welsh
Jaguar at $80 each? Not cheap, but a good price. There are no others that I
know of which “closely match” the originals. You can fit Bosch Pilot lamps,
but these are more rectangular.

This is the same company I purchased my headlamp conversion from. 1 Pr. 7"
with H4s and city lights and 1 pr. 5 3/4" with H4s and city lights. These
are WESEM E20 certified low profile dome front (between sealed beam and
flat) @ $37.50 USD/pr.
I could be mistaken, but the Cibie Airport 35’s are the exact shape and size
for the lamps. I believe these are one of the original Jaguar accessory
lamps. The size, mounting, and shape of the lens appears correct. Also, the
Marchal 750’s appear to be the same. Both are manufactured by the same
company.
I have used set of Cibie 35’s on my '87 (w/chrome bodies) and have a set for
my '79 with black bodies. By the way, the OEM Jaguar covers snap right on!
They do appear on ebay at times. I paid less than $35 US for each set. Often
though they will go for much, much more. The ones from Welsh Jaguar are a
good buy, but I chose to go used for much less.

There is some confusion here on the Welsh offer. Although the foglamp
in the picture appears to be correct the part number quoted and the
vehicle range is not. (DAC 4241 for XJ6/12 74-88 and XJS 76-91)
The correct Cibie foglamp number is DAC4315 and does cover the
XJ SII/SIII range but the DAC 4241 listed on the Welsh offer was
the Hella foglamp first introduced in 1987 solely for the XJ-S.

DAC 4241 XJ-S 87-91
This lamp looks like the same one I have on my '91 XJ-40 VDP…is it?
Having bought a set of these Cibie fog lights from both Stephan Gibson and
Pauls Jaguar I can vouch for them being Identical. Only difference was the
price.

The part number for foglamps referred to in Welsh’s flyer [DAC 4241] is
correct for XJS models only. The correct part number for all Series II and
Series III XJ foglamps is DAC 4315. Incidentally, whichever model you have,
we recommend buying a kit that includes the foglamp covers. Each of the two
foglamps mentioned above has a different cover that is unique to each lamp
[XJS vs. XJ Sedans].
Hope this helps,
Paul

Last I checked, they were Cibie Airport 35’s that Jaguar put on.

Too bad it’s a decoy.
Without a picture I can not determine what you have fitted but if we
take your view that it looks the same then you have probably got
DBC 3753 Cibie foglamps fitted which were introduced for the
early XJ40 models.
However, for the 1990 MY they were changed to DBC 4320 which
is a Hella foglamp and I would expect them to be on your 91 car.

Hi @Jochen_Glockner - I’m curious how you like the Hellas. What car you added them to, and if the installation was straightforward? Any pictures would be appreciated!
Sorry Brian for responding so late, but I was away from the pics available.
Yes, I do like the Hellas - I was told they were originally fitted to an Audi 80 B1 that was delivered to the police and deprived of its fog lights - hard to follow the logic, though.
In order to fit them to the stock mounting points I had to fabricate steel brackets. They were still easy to fit though. The light pattern is nice, but there is some visible vibration in the fog light beam.
These are the standard fog lamps fitted to my 76 XJ12C. They look similar to the Hellas.
They work fine but when activated through the dash switch the headlamps etc turn off - no longer standard practice eg my 07 RRS healights stay on with fogs.
I need to check current regs to find out if they are in fact still legal.
it’s quite some time I’ve been there done that but I seem to remember that the Hella Comet 550 are way too big. Hella Comet 450 are better. (160 x 90 mm).
But obviously, the more modern fog lights come basically all plastic except the fixing bracket. No rust issues, true, but black ABS isn’t so appealing.
My UK specced car was switched the same way: only parking lights with fog lights. This might be useful under “London fog” conditions if you don’t go faster than 6 mph. With some 20 m of visibility you want low beams with the fog lights.
That is the way I switched them with an additional relay and I think I made a write up then.
Thanks Jochen,
Not necessarily installing fog lights but I do have the brackets to attach to, so why not. And I remember seeing foglights in a box but can’t recall if they came with the XJ6 or with the Fiat X1/9, but can’t trace the box after a few moves in 20+ years
