AFIAK, before cranking in the ignition position, on constantly.
With engine just started, it should extinguish after a couple seconds.
If your engine chokes, stumbles, misfires badly, it will illuminate. For
example, idle drops below normal ranges (been there).
If you lose power while driving, i.e. ignition amp dies, it will illuminate
(been there).
I’m wagering a guess that if your charging system or coil fails/falls below
norm voltage, it would illuminate?
