I am about to re-spray my 1983 XJ-6 series 3 and would really like
to cover it with an original Jag colour. Does anyone know where I
can get an authentic Jag colour card for that time period or even
better a colour referance code -I am particularly keen on the
lovely maroon they used on some cars.
Help much appreciated–

You might identify what is the year and model of your car.
There are a number of very informed people on this forum
that can and will supply you with the correct
red/burgundy/maroon for that year/model.
It is my opinion that the Jaguar version of
red/burgundy/maroon has probably had 50 different names over
the years. Fifty is obviously an exaggeration but I have
seen a 1965 3.8s in red/burgundy/maroon that looked the same
generally as a 2005 modern S-Type red/burgundy/maroon. The
major difference was metallic, clear coating and different
paint material, the color though remained very close to the
same.
I am sure the experts and purists will disagree but I have a
2004 Chrysler Crossfire in Blaze Red that is very close to
the Jaguar red/burgundy/maroon that I have seen.–

Just noticed that you already did identify the year/model of
you car, my apologies for my inability to read. Actually, I
should take my own advice concerning a good (or lousy) cup
of coffee in the morning befog engaging brain.
Sorry about that!!!–

After getting that next cup of coffee I noticed the third
link was duplicated. I meant to include this one for a web
site to paint information on the older saloons up to the
420. Not sure what happened but here is the link.
I seem to remember Gregory has posted some info in the past
on colors and codes, perhaps an archives search under his
user name of ‘‘Dr. Gregory Andrachuk’’ would reveal a lot more
info for you.–

I think the colour you need is called Cranberry.–
