Subject: manual AC control.

Hi all
a few people have asked about my manual ac control, so here it is:

you will need to purchase a “DP3T Center off, momentary ‘on’ both sides”
toggle switch. it will
cost a couple of dollars. i installed the switch in the gear change
surround below the ashtray. the wires
are easily routed though to near where the ac amp lives. i did this on a
84 soverign.

i did this over a year ago, but i think this is what i did.

    T1 T2
    ---------------
    | + + |
    | |

T3 | + + | T4
| |
T5 | + + | T6
---------------
bottom view of switch. hopefully this picture will survive transportation
through cyber space!.

connect a 12v feed to T3. connect T1 to the *red wire and T5 to the
*purple wire on the loom that connects to the ac amp (which should be
disconnected).
connect T4 to earth. now connect T6 to T1 and T2 to T5. this wont work
if your ac amp is connected and is working. (you could add a switch into the
fuse wire of the ac amp, so you can switch between manual and auto, i
would use a illuminated siwtch, which would come on when switched to
manual, so you can see what mode you are using) i only did this as a
“temporary” solution until i replace my cactus ac amp.

i will replace my ac amp… one day!, but being a cheapskate, the switch
was cheaper than a ac amp! ;))

*i think these are the colours. ;). you can test by sticking a pin though
the insulation and applying 12v to one and ground to the other, you will here
the servo move if you have it right, remember to disconnect the ac amp first.

cheers

I take it this is to have ac working when ac amp is on the fritz.
What is the reason to want to have both manual & automatic modes?
has anyone tried to take apart a faulty ac amp and repair it?

Robert, the ac amp modules are a solid block of epoxy, they are not
, as far as i know, repairable.

Hi Darrin,

I an in the process of attempting yo install the manual switch

on my 87 xj6. My A/C has a mind of its own, today with the temp.
at 90 deg. it is stuck in the heat mode. I tryed feeding the red,
purple wire with +12 & ground, and popped the 3A fuse on the black
wire. Could you check on the color, or tell me which wires go to
the servo werever it is?

              Thanks
             Joe C.
