I’m in the middle of finishing up my spin-on oil filter conversion on my
1976 XJ6, One thing I noticed while I was under my car and catching
each item of disrepair was the transmission breather line. Is it suppose
to be mounted against anything? At the end was a bit of mangled hose.
I did confer with the parts manual and it looks like a fluid/air
separator (RTC1883) is suppose to be on the end. Is this just suppose to
go to open air just hanging freely or is it suppose to be attached to
something else on the bottom end of the body? I only wondered as one of
the first results from Google when I was looking up the part looked like
it snapped into something.–
In reply to a message from Evie Blackwell sent Wed 30 Mar 2011:
The breather should attach to the gearbox via piece of rubber
hose. It then runs up to quite a tight U bend and this should be
clamped near the top of its run near the starter solenoid. The
pipe then drops down and the open end vents to atmosphere.
The part you mention (which I must admit I never noticed) should, I
think, be on the gearbox.
I don’t thoink there’s much if any difference between the BW65 and
Bw66 in this area so perhaps someone else will have a picture?–
