[xj] remove engine gunk?

Hello gang, as most of you know I have a SIII XJ6.

I always drive fast, I haven’t had an oil change for about 6-7+
thousand km, I usually change the oil at 5K, however I always find
myself putting in oil, rather than changing it.

Is there a product out there, that I can add to my engine oil which
will help break down the gunk for my next oil change?

Don:

Change the oil and filter, drive it for a couple of days, then change the
oil and filter again after a two hour drive a highway speed.

Not elegant, but effective. I’m not sure you want to remove all the gunk as
it might leak.

Hey Don, here’s what an foreign friend of mine did with his 99 Honda Civic –
he always kept it full of oil and drove every weekend from SF to LA to see
family. His Civic lasted 340,000mi. You, however, seem to know what “change
the oil” means. Being from India, he thought it meant keeping it full. If
you ever wanted to see what oil turns to after 340,000mi of hot stirring, you
just had to be there when the mechanic he got towed to dropped the sump –
macadam without the gravel! A pickaxe wasn’t enough to free it.

Hey, in the old days, some folks used to clean their engines’ innards by
running them for a while with kerosene in the sump!–
