[xj-s] 1990 XJ-S Convertible

Jerry,
When convertible windows seem to be malfunctioning, try cycling the
top fully up and fully down two or three times. This will often reset the
system so it will function normally. Works for me.

I have searched the archives and can’t seem to find any information
on putting a 1992 instrument panel in the dash of 1990 xjs.
Any info or references would be great!
Thanks–

Myrtle Productions sells a direct replacement for the entire instrument
panel that is the new gauge configuration. I have to say, I’d miss my
barrel gauges terribly  I’ll warn you that it’s my impression the oil
gauge and temperature gauge are actually just needle versions of idiot
lights. They either read the exact correct setting or show a problem. They
do not give the true range readings. My '95 VDP is like that.

You just take the old one out, plug the one multi-port connector into the
new panel, and replace the fittings.

You can reach them at myrtleprod@aol.com. The web address is
www.myrtleprod.com and there’s a picture of an instrument and wood panel
conversion right on the front page of their site.

Take a 90 detailed schematic and 92 detailed schematic and circuit trace
each and note the differences. A 90 will have an old style instrument panel
and the 92 will use the newer style.

If all external pin connection are the same and internal loading (with
associated circuits) are the same, you could be on the correct track for a
direct change. But I think that there will be changes to deal with.
Identify them first.

Actually, just went to take a look. That web site isn’t exactly … fully
functional. If you drop them a line though, I know they have the full
replacement kit. It doesn’t seem to be on the site.

This is a UK based company by the way. They’ll ship here, but expect a wait
or a big fee. I’ve gotten a number of products from them and have been
generally satisfied with their responsiveness and product quality.
