[xj-s] brake light keeps coming on

brake light keeps coming on and stays on for a few minutes then
goes off. I had acc switch on yesterday for 45 min and battery was
dead when I tried to start an hour later. Is it possible that my
battery is going bad? connection is good, alternator is new 4000

miles ago, and car runs fine. What would do.
Thanks

It is possible that your battery is bad. It’s easy to have tested,
or you could just swap in a new battery and see if things improve. I
presume you already read my note about the possibility of a failed
crank damper.

The condition of the battery has nothing to do with the brake light
issue, though. Since you have an '85, the most likely causes for
that plight are A) a problem in the brake fluid level sensor, which
if it’s the same as the '83 is an absolute POS and should be replaced
postehaste with a Mitsubishi master cylinder reservoir:

Or B) it could be an issue in the handbrake, anything from the
microswitch itself going bad to the handbrake calipers seizing up and
not releasing the handbrake firmly enough to engage the switch.

Thanks Kirbert I agree and think it is a bad battery which I plan
to tested and replaced tomorrow. Also the BRAKE light was a typo
for BATTERY light.
Thanks again
