[xj-s] Distributor - What size Allen Keys

Hi All

I am getting ready to remove my distributor in order to strip,
clean and grease it. I intend to remove the whole unit as one by
removing the three allen screws so all the stripping and rebuilding
can be done on a bench.

Again, my metric set of allen keys don’t seem to have a size that
fits!, Can anyone please tell me the correct size we need to
purchase in order to remove the dist.

Is anything on this car metric!

Thanks as always

Chris,

If it’s like the 5.5L V12 it takes a 3/16 Allen.

To dispel any notions that I have a terrific memory
let me confess that I happen to have a spare dizzy
on the shelf. The person who salvaged it from
his parts car left the screws dangling.

Hi Chris:

Very little on the XJ-S up to the mid-80’s is metric. Keep your metric tools in the XJ40 and the SAE tools in the XJ-S

As Ed says, the 3 allen-head screws that hold the distributor to the valley cover are 3/16" (.1875") or 4.75mm. I have the original distributor from my 85 lying around (rebuilt per the Book – centrifugal advance snaps back) and measured to be sure.
