[xj-s] DIY Convertible Top Replacement

Has anyone ever replaced their own convertible top? Is this
something an experienced and skilled DIYer can do with a minimum of
problems?

My car is a '95 convertible and I’m considering doing the
replacement myself. Sould I or shouldn’t I?

Any advice?–

Hi BigCat,
I have just had a new roof fitted to my '90 convertible. Cost me
A$3,000 and I consider it money well spent. I try to do everything
to my car myself so I researched the top replacment for over a year
including visiting a supplier in Hollywood CA. I planned to buy the
kit and ship it to Australia, but was talked out of it. I can see
why now. It takes a lot of effort and skill. My trimmer used a
Robbins roof and I am very pleased with the quality and fit. He put
extra padding under the liner but I wouldn’t recommend this as it
has put a few bumps in the roof where it goes over the rear bow.
They had my car for several weeks to fit the roof and liner.
