Does anyone know if the rear axle half shaft u joints
interchange between the axles used on the inboard vs
outboard brakes?
Honestly, I don’t believe there are that many different U joints out
there. You could probably just walk it into Autozone and tell them
to match it.
I had a U-joint fail on the rear axle of my 1973 Triumph GT6 once –
in a tiny town in Georgia on a weekend. Nobody in town was willing
to even look at it. So the wife and I found an auto parts store that
was open, bought a U-joint and a few tools we might need, put the car
in the parking lot of a bank across the street, and I put the car up
on the scissors jack and went to work. Coupla hours later, parts
scattered around the parking lot, I discover we had bought the wrong
U-joint! The listing in the parts stores books was wrong, gave the U-
joint for a TR6 but my car needed the U-joint from a Spitfire.
Fortunately, the store was still open, went back and traded the U-
joint for the correct one and continued.
Some old lady in a nearby house noticed what we were doing and
brought us some iced tea. We watched her for ten minutes as she
walked the 50 yards from her house to where we were working.

Same, unless someone has changed something,
A change in part number might reflect going from a U-joint with a
grease fitting to a U-joint without a grease fitting. Without is the
way to go these days, as people trying to use a grease fitting often
do more harm than good.

I agree.
Surely there are hundreds of different u-joints out there.
However, I’ll wager that just a dozen part or so numbers
would cover about 75% of the cars on road for the last 50
years.
Whenever any of my Jags needed UJs I’ve never had a problem
getting them at NAPA or such.
Gotta be a little careful, though. Many alternatives will fit but are not as stout in the ‘‘x’’ section as the
Jaguar originals, in my experience

I agree, there can’t be that many different u joints out
there. It would be nice to have the right ones in
advance.
Too bad I couldnt pull up the specs somewhere. I guess
that would be too easy.
