Any secrets to disconnecting the connectors at the rear of the
inst. cluster? Having trouble removing them on my 1990 XJS.

As I recall there are clips at each end that have to be squeezed. It’s hard
to get your hand in there to do it. Be very careful though, because the
contacts are nothing but conductors on the flexible printed circuit. The
tend to delaminate. It’s a tedious job to get them glued back down.

Super glue seemed to have worked well for reattaching the
flimsy copper foil to the plastic substrate.–

No secrets - you have to squeeze the release pin REAL hard -
but DO NOT force the plug out or you will rip the plastic
wiring and that will be REAL pain to fix.

Tip - if your fingers can’t release the clip - tape a small
flat blade screwdriver to your finger so the tip is just near
your fingerprint - no joke use 2 loops of electrical tape -
this gives you the ‘‘feeling’’ but mechanical advantage - works
in confined places really well–

I have used a small poker like tool to push on the detent on the connector … It’s like a dentist tool… You push on the detent and the wire and contact come right out … Makes it quite easy…
