[xj-s] Jaguars in Movies

Somebody here was once compiling a list of movies with Jaguars in
them. I have one to add: “Dirty Pretty Things” with Audrey Tautou.
It’s a pretty good movie but very dark and depressing, don’t expect a
load of laughs. Not suitable for children, either. No Jaguars are
featured, but one late 80’s XJ-S appears in the background in one
scene, and it’s close enough for a pretty good look at it. The plot
takes place in London so it’s probably a RHD model, although I didn’t
notice.

I’ve seen the list, and to add to it on the lighter side …

I recently saw an xj-s in Griswald’s Christmas (Chevy Chase comedy), a light
blue coupe drives by on the street just before the departmernt store scene.
Appearance is about 2 seconds long if that.

I think I mentioned when the movies topic last passed by that there’s a
white convertible in Johnny Stecchino (Italian farce comedy) in a few
scenes, and a gray coupe in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (Am.
mystery) maybe only one scene.

In the video for the song ‘‘1985’’ (I can’t remember the name of the
group) the last minute or so is a girl recreating the Tawney Kitain
scene in the 1980’s Whitesnake video where she slithered on the
hoods of two XJ-6’s. This time, the victim is a white XJ-S. I
cringe while I watched it because as she slithered all over, you
could hear the bonnet popping. Glad it wasn’t my car.

The bad guy in ‘‘Die Another Day’’ features a green XKR that shoots
missiles from the grille.–

The group that sings 1985 is ‘‘Bowling for Soup.’’ I know this
because I bought the CD for a certain pair of girls who play it
INCESSANTLY. They would love to see my car in the video. I might
have to buy the download.

On another note, they were watching Underworld the other day, which
is a cheesy vampire vs werewolves movie. Kate Beckinshaw (vampire
chick) drives an older manual XJ that SMOKED from a take-off.
Wonder if they left a V-12 in it, or had it lumped for the movie?

It was a beautiful Jag, but it finishes it’s scene upside-down
underwater. Sad.

Pub would be an excellent venue for this topic.

There’s a page on the Jag-Lovers website where someone maintained a list of
movie sightings of various Jaguars.

I started punching sightings into my Jaguar blog a couple of years ago,
complete with IMDB links, though as I’ve set it up, my blog expires old
posts after a period of a few months. There’s currently SIX blog postings
visible for “Jaguars in Film” though.

I thought that in that movie it was a 6-cylinder car? I thought I
distinctly remember hearing the starter from an XK motor when
watching that movie. It was a 5-speed, though, that was quite neat. I
believe it was an XJ6C, but maybe it was a Series 3 XJ6? I forget.

In the movie “Formula 51” (that features Samuel L Jackson wearing a
kilt, among other things) there is a dark red Series 3 XJ6 (red
exterior/biscuit interior). 7" outer lamps, right-hand drive,
automatic. Was in very nice shape, actually. But, of course, they
trashed it. sigh

In the movie Erin Brocovich, her initial law suit was
against a driver of an XJS coupe, black. But even with TVO,
I can’t tell you the year was. And there is an obscure adult
cartoon from the comedy channel that airs now and then where
the movie producer, Robert Evans drives a facelift
convertible. Don’t forget the latter days Saint tv show with
Roger Moore, either as long as we’re on the subject of XJS
in films and if you relly drag the depths of the barrel you
can watch Corvett Summer for a pair of them in a used car lot.–

Hi all,
I can’t remember any movie names, but we in England a number
of years ago were treat to two T.V.series which included a
considerable amount of viewing time of the XJ-S / XJS.
I don’t know if you got the programmes over in America.
The first programme was a successor of an earlier series,
starring Roger Moor as Simon Templar in ‘The Saint’. He drove a
Volvo p1800 I think.
The Re-make of that series starred ‘‘Ian Ogilvy’’, (well the
first name is spelt right at least). The series was called ‘The
Return Of The Saint’. Some of the series was filmed in England and
some in southern France ‘I think’.
In the series he drove a 1975 white XJ-S and was involved in a
lot of car chases. The continuity left a bit to be desired in that
one scene would have the leaper on the bonnet (hood), and the next
it was gone, only to appear again later. This series did a lot to
bolster the sales of the new Car from JAGUAR, as the vehicle was in
lots of scenes.
The second series was again a re-vamp of an earlier one, it was
called ‘The New Avengers’, the old one was simply ‘The Avengers’.
Both of these programs starred Patrick Mcnee. In the second
series a character called Gambit drove a bright red XJS, but I am
less clear on dates, but it was several years after ‘The Return of
The Saint’.The car did not get as much coverage in this programme.
I hope this has been of some interest to somebody, and may-be
you could get further info off the web.

Plus one ( the name escapes me ) set in Manchester U/K 2 or 3 years ago,
where the owner of a
textile firm drives around in an XJ-S.
It was about 6 episodes and the XJ-S appeared in most of them.

As for the continuity thing with the ‘‘Return of the Saint,’’ maybe
it was a James Bond type car where the leaper was retractable. You
know, to throw off the bad guys into thinking it was a different
car:)

Hey, makes more sense than flipping license plates on an Aston
Martin.

Bad Guy 1: There he is in the silver Aston.

Bad Guy 2: Nah, can’t be. I wrote down his tag number and this
one is different.

Bad Guy 1: Yer right. Those silver Astons are everywhere. Must
be a different car

Watching a Amazon movie called, “Pearl.” At 39 minutes 19 seconds, there is a 120 FHC sighting!

I was just re-watching “The Vicar of Dibley” recently and in the opening shot was the unmistakable front wing and side mirror of a BRG convertible.
The owner is the lord of the manor.
I’m surprised I didn’t pick it up the first time I watched it.
