[xj-s] lucas epitest

What’s a Lucas Epitest worth ? I know someone with one for sale, new
condition, stored
for last 20 yrs.
What’s it useful for that can’t be done with a full function multimeter and
pressure gauge?
I remember it commented on in the ROM, but that was stolen recently and I
have no reference.
I did a web search and only got 1 hit, a landrover list site.
Our archive only returned 5 hits, none of much interest.
If he want’s more than US $200 then I’m out of the equation.
PS. It has no instruction manual.

Now if there were any tool that everyone on the list should throw a few
bucks into the kitty to purchase, it might be that one. Assuming it had the
proper pinouts for the XJ-S/12 and a suitable reference could be found. (I
assume this is the one which fits in line between the ECU and the harness
and provides the primitive self diagnostic test capability)

It is worth barely 1 for scrap. The fact that it hasn’t been used for 20
years tells you something.

We had one in experimental at Jaguar but I don’t remember it ever being
used. If you understand the system it isn’t much use if you have other more
basic instrumentation. If you don’t understand the system an Epitest won’t
help you much anyway.

We have an Epitest manual here. It is full of pictures of a finger pressing
this button or that one. A bit like a kids picture book really.

Thanks, Roger. The seller is asking over US$250, I offered $50.
It sounds like it’s probably worth more as a piece of Jag trivea.
I’ll email him your comments, name removed, will let you know the reply.
