[xj-s] Moving My Car Back to the US. Anyone done this before?

Dear all,

My 3,6 liter is sold and I will be moving back to the US.

I do not think it will make financial sense to bring in my 89 HE as
it does not have a cat and is worth only about 5000 dollars here in
the UK.

However I do have the possability to buy a 1988 Lemans celebration
number fourty somthing for about 3500 dollars US.

I would assume that if there are only 100 made this would make it
worth the effort???

Still will not have a Cat.

I have thought to pull the motor here and send it via a seperate
shipment which means the car cannot be tested and I can reassemble
it in the US.

Looked on the Govenment website and it is all a bit confusing, has
anyone done this before?–

In reply to a message from DDay sent Wed 25 May 2005:

The ‘‘no Cat issue’’ is a cheap fix since aftermarket ones are
available starting about $70 USD each and very cheap to install.

I would think your best bet to find reliable advice would be to
determine the State you will be registering the Jaguar in and then
find an exporter in the UK that is familiar with Federalizing cars
in the USA.

The reason for knowing the State is the Federal Gov’t here has
their minimum requirements then some States may require some
additional things and/or have inspections that differ from State to
State. Indiana, for example dosen’t have inspections.

The shipping company that will handle your cars’ transport should
be able to give you names of conversion companies at this end.

Bye the way, the cost of shipping your vehicle in pieces may negate
the savings and problems solving of shipping it as a complete car.
I would think the ‘‘can of worms’’ (an American expression) is going
to be opened either way since once the car is assembled here you’ll
still have to document the car and engine to apply for license
plates.

Good Luck and welcome back.
