[xj-s] Need MOMO steering wheel hub for '90/'91 XJ-S

Dear XJ-S friends,
I would like to replace the original 4-spoke (non airbag) steering
wheel by the MOMO JaguarSport one. I bought a very nice original
JaguarSport wheel inclusive of the MOMO boss. Unfortunately, the
Jaguar dealer told me, that the boss I have is the wrong one. The
boss I need should have slip ring/contact for the horns. I believe,
JaguarSport part no is SPC1122 (MOMO part no maybe 2208?). Do
anybody have the right part for sell? Many thanks for any help.

I did a simple adaptation of the Jaguar parts to install the
horn ring with the MOMO wheel that came on my car. I don’t
recall it being a complicated change. I think I just needed
to drill and tap the hub adapter to accept the horn contact
ring. It is eventually going to be coming out to return it
to the original wheel but for now it’s hidden from view and
I can’t get a photo to you. Let me know if you are desperate
and I will get a photo for you. I could also do the
installation for you if you wanted to send me the wheel hub
and contact ring.–

I have a 90 xjs v12, will this combination of Momo wheel and hub work on an
air bag equipped steering column?

Thanks for any info,
Rendy-----Original Message-----

Thank you! This would be quite possible solution if I wouldn’t be
able fo find the genuine hub. I suppose, the Jaguar dealer didn’t
mention this possibility because he knows that I store all the
genuine parts of my Jaguars so that they can be restored to their
original state if necessary.–

Hi Rendy
I’m not sure concerning the XJ-S. Some years ago, I intended to
exchange the original air bag equipped steering wheel of my XJ81 by
the TWR JaguarSport one of the TWR XJ40. The Jag dealer told me
then, that it’s not possible to replace air bag fitted wheel by the
non air bag JaguarSport one.

Thanks for the info Peter, I was hoping to replace my 90’ XJS airbag
steering wheel with a classic style wood wheel but am afraid I can’t get a
hub to fit the steering column spline. Such a beautiful car and such an
ugly steering wheel.

It was many years ago in the early 70s that I spent a two week vacation from
Germany in your country. My objective was to ride as many cable cars and
cog wheel trains as I could find. Great time, beautiful country.

Thanks again,
Rendy

Rendy, try this page:
http://www.cardomain.com/shop/list.pl?
brand=MOMO&type_plural=Steering+Wheel+Hub+Adapters&x=41&y=11.
Maybe the MOMO 2208 hub adapter (for 1990-1995 XJS) will fit your
car.
I absolutely agree with you. The saloon like standard steering
wheel doesn’t match this great GT at all.
I was many years ago in the USA (Fla, Miami Beach). What a great
country. As for you Switzerland, USA was for me a splendid valuable
experience.
Best regards, Peter–

So Peter, you believe everything dealers tell you.
If I could find the picture of my 95 XJ-S V12 Coupe with the MOMO
13 in wheel in it, I would send it to you.
All you need is an adapter for the early car and it works. The MAIN
difference is, the horn. You will have to make a jumper wire to
make the horn blow, from the push button in the center of the wheel.

That’s why I join the forum Chad - for learning it better. You are
right, the main ‘problem’ of the exchange on my non air bag car
seems to be the horn. The '90 on cars have 4 spoke steering wheels
with horn pushes on the upper spokes - as well as the later MOMO
JaguarSport wheels respectively XJR-S wheels do. The (wrong) MOMO
adapter I have is destinated for steering wheels with central horn
push. As I don’t want to change the genuine layout of my XJ-S Le
Mans, I have to buy an adapter which includes the spring/slip ring
contact. I had a look at JDHT. This part seems to be still
available. Regards, Peter–
