[xj-s] No HT spark

Well after a year of no problems starting the car will crank but no
start. A year ago with starting problems it turned out to be the
cts. I replaced it and good to go until now.

I have fuel, I have injector clicking but no spark from the coil to
the dizzy. It is a Lucas ignition system. Is it a defective coil or
something else?

Coil is easy to check. Disconnect the wires from the coil that go to
the ign amp – I think that’s the - terminal – connect up a wire,
ground a flat file and scratch the wire up and down the file. You
should get a whole mess of sparks from the HT lead. If you don’t,
either the coil is bad or the 12V power to the coil is bad.

Another likely culprit is the ign amp itself. That’s the infamous
$25 fix, just buy a new GM HEI module and plug it in. There are
shops that will test the old one, if you wanna go that route.
