Hey there,
I’ve got an 88 with a V12. It wont spark and therefore wont
start :(. I’ve replaced the Ignition module, rotor, cap,
wires, spark plugs, coil, and made sure that every connection
is absolutely perfect. I checked the resistance at the leads
from the pick up and I am getting a touch under 2.8Kohms. I’m
totally lost and am in need of some serious help! Any ideas?
There are some tests of the Lucas CEI in the Jaguar Service Manual at
Section 86.35.00, pages 86-24 through 86-26. If you performed those
tests (in less than 30 minutes even if you’ve never done them before),
I believe you would identify the source of the problem, or at least by
reporting your results here, someone else could suggest the cause.
Please let me know if you don’t have the Service Manual, and I can send
you some info.

In reply to a message from staben913 sent Sun 16 Mar 2014:
perhaps the coil in the distributor that picks up the rotor
‘‘teeth’’ (Sorry forgot all the terminology) has gone open or
short circuit.
The ignition amplifier needs to see clean pulses from this
coil to fire the plugs, I think even bad adjustment of the air
gap can stop it working.–
