[xj-s] Posi diff

I was reading a Super Street magazine, and found an article where they
repalced the stock diff with an after market enclosed diff that fits in the
case of the original. They just bolted the ring gear to the new module and
put in the case.

There was a little more to it than that, but my question is this:

Is there any opinion on aftermarket modules such as this that will fit in
the XJ-S Salsbury case, and if so, since I am moving to a tremec 3550, are
there any suggestions on ratio?

In reply to a message from Hector Virgilio Barrientos-Bullock sent Sun 25 Aug 2002:

Just buy the whole differential they are about 950 and 700 to put
it in unless you can do it yourself keislerauto.com has them I
did it with mine. Definately more useful. Use the tremec tko.
Strong. I upgraded to the 3600 pressure plate from McCleod. Yes
I have looked into changing the gears out and using the case but
by the time they do it, its the same price. Make sure they use
GM Limited Slip additive for the clutches the guys who did mine
didnot saying castrol already has it. Clutches will not work
without it.–

Matt, it’s not quite accurate to say that the “clutches will not work
without it.” They’ll work just fine with regular lube, but they will make a
hell of a racket as the clutch plates chatter while turning.

I have to side with John Pring on the Spirax diff lube fixation. The
PowerLok Jag diffs work just fine with quality lube supplemented with the GM
positraction additive. Since CW has rebuilt and sold something like 9,000+
diffs in the last 10-12 years, I’m pretty certain we’d have heard about it
if it didn’t.

Try Coventry West. They are great guys and have plenty of diffs to choose
from. You’ll also get a direct price rather than pay a middleman upcharge.

I don’t think you understand what I mean.

There are diff gear sets such as the detroit locker, the powertrax, the lock
right, etc that are consolidated units that fit inside the case but repalce
all the gutsexcept the ring and pinion gear. I am contemplating this. They
provide no slip instead of limited slip, etc and the salisbury is basically
a dana 44 so I think it can be done.
