I guess I wasn’t clear. Even with the dust cap removed it wouldn’t work…
I had forgotten, that years ago, when I put the BBS wheels on my '83, I had
the same problem…It’s been so long since I did that, I forgot I had the
spacers on that car too. And they are 15" Jag BBS wheels from a car that is
only a few years newer than '83.
I went out to check everything last night, and found that the ‘shoulder’
that the wheel centers on the hub with has a taper at the outside but is not
tapered at the end near the hub, for about the last 1/2" or so. Even with
the spacer, the wheel IS centered…Some of you guys had me worried. If
you had to put a really wide spacer on, like 1/2" then you would have
problems, but 5/16" (8mm) is fine.

To add to John’s previous commentary, whell spacers
unless firmly afixed to the wheel (bolt on type) with
machined hub openings exactly the size of your car can
cause some serious damage to your wheels, studs and
may even be a safety hazzard.

One other consideration about the spacers is that the
spacers increase the offset, posssibly beond Jag
specs, or the wheels are now more prone to scraping
the wheel arches and bottoming out,
remember, you’ve aready increased the wheel width by
half and inch.

I would suggest that you look for plastic octogonal
knock-off caps (ala BBS) where you can locate the
emblems, and use them at all four corners.
Alternatively, the Jag dust caps are domed and you may
be able to find a squared off cap that will provide
the necessary clearances for your emblem caps.

Two months ago, I fitted the 15" BBS style lattice rims from an 88’(and
94’?) onto my 82. No spacers and the 82(starfish) wheel center dust caps
snapped in with no mods.

I recently install 17" OX wheels on my XJ_S Coupe '89 by going through a lot
of trouble. I have to put spacers on both the front and rear; and to tabing
the wheel arch further up to have enough clearance. My car have been in the
shop for more than a month with all the performace enhencements: AJ6 Plus
throttle Kits, big bore exhausts, and body kits. Can’t wait to drive the
transformed cat to jaguar.
BTW, any body interested in a set of 15" lattice alloy wheels in Hong Kong?

What size tires have you put on your car to require mods to the fenders??? I
have 245/40/18" and required no mods(even lowered the suspension some). I
only required a very thin spacer to allow the center cap to fit without
touching the dust cap on the hub(front only)
I caught a lot of grief from the list about spacers, lots of warnings of
doom and gloom. I used Jaguar XJR wheels. The offset was slightly different,
thus the need for 8mm spacers at the front. Why so much trouble with yours?----- Original Message -----
