Can anyone tell me where I can source a new replacement windshield
for my '96?–

For cheap aftermarket glass Safelite is the best. For OEM call Pilkington classics

The XJS windshield is no longer imported to the US and Safelite
has run out (as have all the other suppliers I have contacted). I
will try Pilkington.–

FYI Pilkington Classic in US is very US biased, but they can get anything Jaguar from the Pilkington/Triplex factory on Isle of Shippey. If they deny availability, don’t take no for an answer.

So Pilkington say that the '96 XJS is not yet old enough to be
considered a classic, so they don’t stock the glass.

Back to square one. Any ideas?–

I wouldn’t have taken no for an answer from Pilkington, but try SNG Barratt next asking for BEC22248* but I can’t promise that fits your VIN. There are two very distinct windshields, and yours is the bonded one. In the range of bonded windshields, there are several part numbers and the difference is the blackout edge pattern.

I’m interested how this all goes because my 1995 needs a windshield due to pitting. It’s almost impossible to see out of on a sunny morning.

In reply to a message from John sent Mon 22 Feb 2016:

SNG Barratt were very unhelpful and terse, almost to the point of
rudeness. The upshot being that they don’t have the windshield in
stock and don’t know when it will be in stock.

As recommended, I went back to Pilkington. They CAN get me a
windshield from the UK. The downside is that the delivery time is
5 months. I might not have a choice unless someone else has a
better idea?–

By the way, the price at Pilkington was a very reasonable $300
which (I think) included shipping.–

You might want to order several, and post the extras on
eBay. You could end up getting off Scott free.

I may want to order one for myself if there’s a 5 month
wait!–

I ordered a windshield for an odd car from them and it took nearly a year! I will order one now too.

If you’re in a rush, get a junkyard screen. They use this heater thing and can pop them right out, but you’re probably going to have to pick it up. Car-part dot com is the biggest junkyard search engine.

Good idea :-))
Or, we may try to do a ‘‘group buy’’

At this price, although I don’t need a glass right now, I’d be
willing to do it.

Later this year? How old does a car have to be?

You could tell them you own a '94. The glass should be the same. I wouldn’t
try a pre-facelift glass, though, that’s likely to be different.

you could call Jaguar Heaven here in Stockton, CA to see if
they have a used one. Their prices are usually !!! but in
such a state of need, sometimes ya do what you do…its
only money and the Jaguar is much more important. I have no
connection with these guys but they do have a very large
inventory. 1-800-969-4524 ask for Danny. Best, JW–

also look at everyday XJ dot com. their supplies are limited but they are good people.
Jagbits, motorcars ltd, terrysjag all have OE replacements. On a side note, I’d also recommend replacing with OE glass. I have an XJ6 with aftermarket glass and it looks goofy - to me anyway

Just noticed this post is nearly a year old, you’ve probably replaced the glass by now. sorry
