Stolen Vehicle: If you see this Celebration Edition 1996
Jaguar XJS in Sapphire Blue Pearl with a matching top and
Creme Leather Interior it was stolen from a friend of mine
who lives near Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Note the aftermarket custom 18’’ polished chrome wheels. It
also has a leaper on the hood and a spoiler on the back like
a V12 car, but it’s actually a 4.0L inline 6 if someone
actually looks under the hood, does not have any V12 badges,
and the leapers on the side are silver. It just underwent a
restoration so the paint is also fresh. If you see it please
contact the police.

Wow, incredible bad luck, and sorry, Gyps. & I’m
curious how they were able to steal it though. Was the
alarm on at the time? I always thought our XJSes were
fairly theft-proof b/c of the requirement of a Tibbes key to
even start/run it, but maybe I’ve just been fooling myself
with that belief. (?) Was the convertible top up or down,
or if up did they end up cutting through it? That’s one
reason I stay away from convertibles, as well as safety
concerns in a wreck.
That leaper on the hood should be a dead give-away for any
Jagger who spots it, btw.
Good luck on finding it safe and sound.–

btw, in the meantime, be sure you monitor Ebay and Auto
Trader online in case someone tries to list it there. Also
keep an eye on Hemmings Motor News listings. I think there
is some way you can set up a ‘‘crawler’’ search with Craig’s
List that will pull up any ad that is posted for the vehicle
on any Craig’s List in the U.S., but I forgot how to do it.
Of course, it’s possible the car is headed to a chop shop
just for parts. That’s where you want to keep an eye out on
Ebay and CL for some of the distinguishing parts you
mentioned, like the chromed after-market wheels. If the car
is headed for ‘‘south of the border’’ though, you may be out
of luck ever getting it back.

Yep, I found that out once when Supercat was towed off for
her inspection sticker being out, while parked in front of my
condo. Her alarm never went off once in the process! I
posted about this, and someone said the ones in our XJSes
don’t go off based on vibration (I think the XJ40s’ did), but
only if the door is opened, or some such. GRRRR. &8-(–

The alarms that merely blow the horn
are merely irritating and offer
no security.
