I want to install the relay scheme per Kirby’s book to improve
wiper performance. The scheme calls for 2 relays to be the SPDT
type (with the 87a terminal) and a third that has double 20 amp
contacts. The SPDT relay (Jag part number SRB411) is around $40
each which sounds a bit pricey. Is there a part number for this
type of relay I can go buy at the parts store? Also, I’m not clear
on what part number I should look for for the double contact
relay.
Thanks for any advice you might have.–

Kirbert - if you are out there, could you please set me straight on
relay #2 from page 622 in your book? I’m confused about this
particular instruction:
‘‘Note that the second set of contacts in Relay 2 is really part of
the Relay 3 scheme; if Relay 3 is not being installed, a SPST relay
(common automotive relay) can be used for Relay 2.’’.
Since I plan to install all three relays, I’m not clear about which
relay to purchase for relay #2. Should I use something like this
MSD relay http://performanceparts.com/part.php?partID=185554 or
should I used two SPDT relays in a double socket… etc?

Either way. That MSD 8960 is described as DPST, but it also says
it’s double pole/double throw, which is what you need. It sure looks
like DPDT to me, having six contact terminals and two relay coil
terminals. It’s cute, but it is a bit pricey for a relay. I’m
accustomed to going through a junkyard and paying $5 for a bag full
of relays pulled out of wrecked cars.
