I have a good mate with a 1969 series 1 XJ6 and his guages have chrome looking
surrounds on them… i have since noticed a few series 1’s around with
this.
I dont have these on my 1971 XJ6 but i think they look great and add a totally
different feel the the inside of the car… I was wondering if these surrounds
were used on earlier cars only of wheter they were an option or something as i
really want them on my car.
Any advice on this would be great!

They were used from the start up to around the middle of '70. Apparently
the reflections they could cause were the reason for the change. There
is no doubt they look much better than the later surrounds. At least for
the tach and speedo it is a fairly quick job to change them over.
