In reading the Service Manual for 1985 XJ6 Series 3 VANDEN
PLAS, it does not give info about removing the Vanden Plas r
rear seat backs with center armrest.
The center arm rest will not let the now detached seat backs
move upward. What holds the Center Arm Rests (and the seat
backs)to the back bulkhead? How do I get the entire rear se
seat/armrest out of the car?

So you have the seat bottom out, and the two small bolts
that hold the bottom of the seat back on…
The center console for the rear seat can’t be removed with
the seat back in place…
I think what has you caught is that there are 4 clips that
hold the rear seat in place on the VDP, where the standard
car only has 3… You still just lift it out, but there the
extra clip is another obstacle to clear…
There are also some wood blocks on the rear of the console
(back of the seat) that are likely either bumping those
clips, or hitting that parcel shelf a bit…
If you have those two small bolts out of the bottom, all
that is left is to lift it out of place… Something just
has you a little hung up. You may try pulling on the seat
top a bit to see if that helps clear the blocks past that
parcel shelf filler…
