[xj40] 1990 Soveriegn A/C

Well, my mechanic, a 30 year Jag specialist who generally
doesn’t work on anything newer than 1980, looked at my A/C
as a favor to me, spied a hose that was cracked and a
plugged condenser, replacement of which also requires
receiver dryer replacement.

He replaced those things, added freon and everything
appeared to be working perfectly; pressures all good, etc.
Only thing wrong is that there is no cold air…

Another Jag shop in Indy (Strom’s) suggested it might be the
expansion valve.

Any thoughts? If that’s all it is, what can I expect to pay
for that job?

Thanks in advance and best to all,

Dave–

I’m replacing my expansion valve (and drier) as we speak. The
valve cost me $30.00. Since I’m doing it myself, I don’t know the
labor fee.–

Ask him what the high and low pressures are. If they are OK, the system HAS
to cool. If they are not OK, they will point to the cause of the problem.

Is the expansion valve cold and sweating? If so, the system is cooling
properly but for some reason, the cooling is not reaching the cabin.
