[xj40] 94 XJ12 high idle

My '94 XJ12 (XJ81) idles very high when cold, around 1400rpm.
When it warms up, idle drops to about 1000 rpm.
Ive checked for popped vacuum hoses, so I am suspecting the
extra air valve (EBC1198).
Does anyone know of a source for these? I’m seeing prices
around ~$500 for new, ~$250 for used. I’ve had a few replaced
on various 5.3L cars, so I know they are a ‘‘service’’ item and
I’d prefer not to be paying $250 for a used part that might
last a few months.
Also, any way to repair or rebuild them? Anyone who offers
this service?–

Sounds like you know your V12s, but just in case, make sure you check that
none of the vacuum caps have popped off under the intake plenums. There are
a couple, maybe 1 or 2 on each side that should be capped and won’t have
hoses running to them. You can’t see under there, you have to find them by
feel.

In reply to a message from Daniel Arsenault sent Sat 13 Oct 2012:

Another question - when the car first starts up from cold,
there is a very loud rumbling noise, and I can feel it
vibrating on the LH air filter box. It seems like the bushing
on whatever engine driven item has failed. That item shuts
off after a few minutes of running. Is this the air pump?

How hard is it to remove or replace?–
