[xj40] Another Day, Another Problem- Driveline Vibration

I hope this is a simple one, but I’ll put it up to the group for a
consensus.

New problem came up today- now I’m almost ready to tackle the ‘‘Low
Brake Presure’’ bug… While driving my car, with two other adults
on board, a vibration started occuring I was not accustomed to.

Symptoms were:
50mph vibration starts
60mph, or so, vibration dissipates.
Foot down on gas hard, vibration disappears.

Vibration feels like coming from rear half of vehicle.

Very Heavy Low Pitch vibration, both felt and heard.

No controlability/handling issues otherwise- just heavy vibration

Could this be the fabled center bearing getting ready to die? I
have an early 88 XJ40 with non-jurid rear, and lots of U-joints
(ones on driveshaft are non-greasable)

Any help appreciated

Thanks!

Check your tires first I had the same problem with one of mine,
check for out of round by jacking up the car and spin the
wheels. You will have to jack up both rears and run the car in
drive. Not forgeting to put a block at the front wheel. My tire had a
problem with the sidewall. When the car is jacked up check the wheel
bearings, and output shaft bearings, u joints, centre bearing.
