[xj40] (Another) electrical oddity

Yesterday, I ended up in traffic through a flash flood.
After running through a clear six inches of water, I stalled
out (soaked the air filter.) After being pushed out of the
impromptu river, I swapped the air filter, hosed out the MAF
sensor with some solvent, and clapped it all back together.
Half a can of starting fluid later, she stayed up and
running. Oddly enough, she’s easier to start now
(previously, It took a few seconds to catch, but now fires
on the first crank every time.( I wonder if backfiring back
up the intake on the first start loosened up some carbon or
sludge.)

Since then, for some unknown reason, with the engine off and
key removed, the key/seatbelt buzzer runs constantly when
the driver’s door is open. With the key out and all
lights/electrics off, it should be off. Is this just another
case of Joe Lucas Strikes Again, or is the buzzer giving me
a warning?–

You were lucky.
I had a friend who did the same thing in a Porsche and sucked in
enough water to cause hydraulic lock in a cylinder and punched a
hole through the block.

UPDATE: Stopped. A real head-scratcher. Less to worry about,
any rate. Gave the alternator a good hosing with electronic
equipment cleaner for good measure, and took her on a nice,
long drive this afternoon to blow her out and make sure I’m
not having any further problems. Average MPG seems to be up
a tick too, since the gunk in the throttle body was cleared
out. All’s well that ends well.–
