[xj40] Clarification on Secondary Hydraulic Chain Tensioner

Sorry for the long prev eml just wanted to share the head
gasket experience since writing to a couple of old friends
on the site elicited surprise the non return positive
crankcase vale would cause the engine to run so poorly it
was the straw that broke the camel (200,000 mile head
gasket) back. IMHO

CLARIFICATION

On re installing the head after a blown head gasket a
problem was discovered in the secondary timing chain
tensioner. The seat of the check valve was badly worn and
fragmented causing me to wonder if there was a problem with
the timing chain tension or setting that would cause this
kind of damage since many have posted their head gasket
experience and never mentioned it. It also brought up the
question of how the jaguar part used to set the 2-4 lbs
pressure on the chain works or if its needed to reinstall
the tensioner.

Those were the questions I needed a reply to on or off line

Thanks for any reply Nothing has been helpful so far and I
know there are ppl out there who must have changed the
tensioner.–
