[xj40] My car says its a "XJ6"..why is it a "XJ40"?

My title and car both state it is a 1993 XJ6. When I was looking
at buying it, I ran a carfaqs and it claimed by VIN id that is was
an XJ6. I read that certain years are called xj6 and others xj40.
Can someone help me understand this???

Its a XJ6 Serues XJ40 just like the XJ6 Series I said it was an XJ6 and
the same with the Series III and II
