[xj40] Odometer light out question

For some reason dash lights are fine but note the odometer
is not lit. Also true of cruise control which is not working
now and may be due to other electrical or the blown rubber
bellows. Is there a separate dimmer? I have even forgot
where the dash light dimmer is if it has one?–

Rechecked and verified all dash lights, clock light, cruise
and VCM all light up, just no odometer light. Also found and
used dimmer control and everything moved from dim to bright
ok. So how do I access that light to verify the bulb?–

Larry,

To get to those odometer bulb assemblies (there are 2 of them) you
have to remove the underscuttle panel and the metal panel behind
it. See #7 and #8 here:
http://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/uk/jaguar-xj6-xj12-parts/interior-
trim-and-linings/body-interior-fixtures-and-fittings/air-duct-ecu-
cover-scuttle-casing

You can then get to the 4 (IIRC) screws that hold the instrument
binnacle on. There are also a couple of wiring connectors that
have to be disconnected. Lower the steering wheel as far as it
will go to provide clearance and lift the binnacle upwards to
remove.

It might be helpful to read my earlier posts about replacing all
the bulb assemblies with LED assemblies:

And to also refer to the pictures I posted in the photo album, to
which there is a link in the posts I referred to above.–
