[xj40] XJ40 RH AC BLOWER

Hi Guys,
So after resoldering the footwell fuse boxes, I found out RH
B4 fuse is blown, indicating nonfunctional RH AC blower…
I checked out the XJ40 Book for instructions. Apparently the
blower was flooded several times and severely corroded.
Those damn Duck Bills!
So what are my options; trying to fix the old one or buy a
functional second hand unit? My XJ40 is a late model 1994
VIN 7 and has a RH passenger air bag. I guess the right unit
is CCC7446. How much of trim needs to be removed in order to
remove the blower and how do you put it back and connect all
the ducts?

You need to disarm and remove the airbag to remove the
passenger side blower on a 94 MY - there are some threads on
doing that in the archive or if not here maybe on jagforums …

Merci beacoup Larry.

So logically next question would be: do I need to remove the
dashboard or can it be done underneath? How do you disarm and
remove an airbag?

Jukka,

you don’t need to remove or disarm the passenger airbag to
remove the blower. I’ve done it at least 2 times. Some wires
have to be disconnected and the plastic tray removed, three
control modules to remove but you need an extension for the
ratchet to get to the two securing bolts of the blower.–

Hehehe Joseph, thanks for your reply.

Your advice sounds like instruction manual for terminal care
institution;

‘‘Some wires have to be disconnected and the plastic tray removed’’.

Yet again, in the case of my dearly beloved Bessie, that’s more
than accurate assessment… But seriously, Bryan sent me the
instructions in order how to remove the blower and trusting he’s
highly appreciated knowledge, I’ll give her a tray. Oops,I mean a
try, silly me!

Hi Jukka
There is quite a bit of information about the blowers in
section 9 of the JL online XJ40 book here:
http://www.jag-lovers.org/ebooks/bookindex.php?Vbook=xj40
If you haven’t already done so you might want to check it
out. Good stuff.–

Jukka,

Whereas those instructions I PM’d you only cover the
disarming of the airbag should you decide to remove the dash
to get better access to the blower unit, I have found some
further instructions which cover the airbag and dash removal
which I have now sent via a further PM.–

Yeah, it’s definitely easier to get to the blower once the
dash is removed. I did just the opposite: when I removed the
dash to work on it, I kept the blower(s) in place and when I
had to remove the blowers to fix them, I kept the dash in
the car. lol
Jukka, let us know how things are going with fixing or
replacing the non working blower.–

I agree with Joe.It is much easier to remove and install the blower
with the dash out.If you are flexible enough to get under the dash
to get to the retaining bolts it could be done with dash in the
car. When I reinstalled the blower I split the rubber boot that
goes between the blower and the heater housing to make it easier to
install.Even with the dash out I coudn’t get the boot to go back on
until I split it.Once in place I used some duct tape to seal it
together. Just be careful handling the airbag unit! Cary–
