Xjsc won’t start

Continuing the discussion from Xjsc refuse to start:

Jag has 53000 mi . Owner for three years , injector hose broke , .sent entire rack with injectors to specialist to redo hoses and check all injectors . Installed and started motor ran little rough for 2 or 3 mins but smoothed out and purred for fifteen mins . Was pleased with my work shut down , tried to start next morning for a Sunday ride that was two weeks ago . Checked spark seems fine checked fuel by loosening hose to A side vacuumed reg . Sprayed
everywhere. Shot either into intakes behind filter did not seem to make difference. Love this car , but reminds me of my second wife . Fickle!

Vince,
Get a mechanics stethoscope and listen to the fuel injectors while someone cranks the engine to see if you can hear the pronounced clicking that shows that all of the fuel injectors are working properly.

If you don’t hear the fuel injectors clicking then it is possible that when you removed and replaced your fuel rail you upset some of your 32 year old wiring. There is a small fragile white shielded pair wire from the ignition amplifier that carries the signal to the EFI ECU telling it when to fire the fuel injectors. Search the archives and you will find a lot of no-start posts where this white wire was broken and then when it was repaired the car started and ran properly again. This is also covered in Kirby’s book.

Paul

Shut down while running nicely, no changes made and won’t start the next time?

This “ran a little rough for 2 or 3 mins” was apparently rough enough to mention in your brief summary. I’m betting that the same condition that caused it is acting again, and now it’s sufficient to keep it from starting.

Stating your year and engine will help diagnosis.
