XK 150 Wire Wheel Hub Puller

Hi All
Apologies if this has been discussed before.
I need to replace the rear discs on my 150.
Does anybody know where I can hire a suitable hub puller (UK)?
or are there any tricks to removing the hubs without the use of the puller?
Ive heard of undoing the castellated retaining nut one turn and then driving around the block! Sounds dangerous to me but I’m assured it works :flushed:
Any experience please?
Thanks

This is the tool.

As I recall, MWS either rents them or sells them.

That’s one I’ve never heard of. There is a special “Churchill” puller required. I have used it on my XK150 and it’s not an easy task. It’s called the Jesus nut for a reason. Suggest you ask if someone can loan you one, or even better, help you do it.

They are available on eBay, not particularly expensive.

Easy to use, my only advice is to leave the nut on loosely when using the puller to prevent the hub and disk becoming a missile.

Hi Phil…if your hubs have been off before(last 15 years or so) then you may be ok with the puller however it works by tightening down the threaded bolt as shown in the photo above…this can damage the end of the axel shaft of your not carefull…my hubs hadent been off in years…the puller wouldnt move them…i resorted to pulling them off with the axel shafts after first cutting into the disc to get a spanner on to the nuts/bolts holding the bearing retainer onto the axel…even then a lot of force needed with a slide hammer to pull the shafts…once removed the hub went into a press with a gas torch on it…so depends if your lucky…

Thanks all for you comments.
I didn’t realise MWS sold them, I will speak with them tomorrow and check if they are suitable for the 150. Just checked their website and not cheap at £150 + carriage.
Had a quick trawl on eBay but couldn’t find one.
I had the hubs off about 5 years ago for an axle refresh so hopefully they will come off ok? A local garage let me borrow a puller that time but unfortunately the gentleman has since retired.

Phil the ‘undo the nut and drive around ‘ works for wheels that are corroded on, not axle shafts. BTDT.

spoke to Ken, unfortunately he no longer hires them …lost too much money he said!

Thanks Phil that’s very kind.
Unfortunately I’m near Lyme Regis in Dorset.
Any chance of posting at my cost? Cheeky I know and fully understand if no.

I was told about this method…makes me nervous! May be as a last resort?

Hi Phil…as you hubs were off not to long ago they may come off quite easy…a quick method is an old spinner with a hole in drilled in the center and a slide hammer attached to it…or a standard 3 leg puller on the spinner with the bolt going through the drilled hole on to the axel shaft…iv used both methods befor.

When you do get a puller remove the hub nut and reverse it back on so the castlehead is facing inwards, screw the nut on until it is flush with the end of the shaft. Its the only way to stop the threaded shaft from being distorted.
I spent $500 on my puller and my hubs fell off in two minutes I got lucky.

No not to remove the hub this is to remove a wheel thats corroded on.
