Needing help on what will dissolve the white looking corrosion in the lower
corners of the alloy doors on my XK 120 FHC it is not real bad but would
like to get rid of it. I know what to do to rust but not the aluminum. Any
kind of liquid that will dissolve that.
Any and all help I would appreciate.

Bob,
There used to be a product called Naval Jelly that I used to remove
corrosion, but it WILL dull whatever aluminum that you put it on.

Bob:
What you have there in a white powder is aluminum oxide which most times
is caused by salt which raises havoc with AL. May sound stupid as hell but a
lot of simple things are, call your local HS and ask to speak to one of the
chemistry teachers and ask them how to stop the oxidation of the aluminium,
how to wash the white powder away, and how can you stop it from happening. I
for one would like to know as I have a FHC and the doors are also AL. Just an
idea. Tell us what you find out
Mad Ludwig
Bob, I use dilute solutions of acid to disolve the aluminum oxide.
Apply the acid then rinse and rinse and rinse until you are sure you got
all the acid off the panel.
Some have used vinegar, but I find it too slow.
Muriatic acid works better. Be careful and only use in a well ventilated
area.

There is also a product called Aluminum Jelly. I have never tired it, but
have seen it on the hardware shelf … usually next to the Naval Jelly.

there is some stuff called Corrosion-X, which is used on alum. aircraft-go to
your local airport and talk to the aircraft mechanic and he will probably sell
you a can. Cheers, Rex
