[xk] FW: XK150 FHC Top welds

Folks,

I need some help.

The PO (present owner) of my 1960 XK150 FHC is undertaking a body-off
restoration of the car. Aside from the rumpled driver’s side front fender,
he found the roof had been welded on. The welds in the rear were at the
rear of the quarter window and about 3 or 4 inches up from the bottom of the
glass. The welds were really poor.

I recall there being some discussion on this topic several years ago, but
cannot find it in the archives. Was this a common practice, or was the car
more buggered than I ever would have dreamed?

The good news is that he understands the risk of buying an old car and is
not PO’d. at me.
