real system file?>Subject: virus

Sorry Folks,
I just received word that I may be infected with the Budbear virus which
is not picked up by anti-virus systems. It sends itself to everyone in
your addressbook and because I find that I have indeed be infected it’s
very likely that you will have been also.

The virus call (called jdbgmgr.exe) is not detected by Norton or McAfee
Anti-firus systems. The virus sits quietly for 14 days before damaging
the system. It is sent automatically by messenger and by the address
book, whether or not you send an email to everyone.

To fix YOU MUST DO THIS:

  1. Go to Start; then Find or Search option.
  2. In the Files/folders option, write the name jdbgmgr.exe
  3. Be sure you search your C drive and anyh other drives you may have
(including My Computer and My desktop).
  4. Click ‘find now’ or ‘search now’.
  5. The virus has a teddy bear icon with the name jdbgmgr.exe
    DO NO OPEN IT!!!
  6. Go to Edit (at the top of the pate). Chose “Select All” to highlight
    the file without opening it.
  7. Now go to File (at the top of the page) and select Delete. It will
then go to the recycle bin.
  8. Go to the Recycle bin and delete it there as well. Select All.
    permanently delete. etc.

IF YOU FIND THE VIRUS, YOU MUST CONTACT ALL THE PEOPLE IN YOUR ADDRESS
BOOK SO THEY CAN ERADICATE IT IN THEIR OWN ADDRESS BOOKS.

It only takes five minutes or so to do this.
Again I apologize for the trouble this may cause you. Our Anit-virus
system did not prevent this virus from entering our computer.
We, like innocent people who sent it to us, are trying to help everyone
remove it as quickly as possible.

It’s a hoax. Go to http://www.vmyths.com/.
You will erase a needed file if you follow those instructions.

Tom L;
YUP!!
DO NOT DELETE THAT FILE…
It IS part of the Windows OS files… I forget exactly what it
does, but I believe it stops your computer cold in it’s tracks if it’s
gone…
When in doubt about some “Virus Warning” that alleges your AV
program “cannot detect it”, go to either the McAfee or Norton sites, call up
the “offending virus” and it will tell you if, indeed, it is a real or
imagined virus… it only takes a couple of minutes to check out to be on
the safe side…

Actually, the file is used to troubleshoot java script that is
downloaded to your pc from some websites.
(The name jdbgmgr is for java debug manager.) It really is not a
critical file, so you don’t really need it, but it certainly is not
harmful either.
On another note, does anyone on the list attend the annual classic care
race in Lime Rock CT the weekend after Memorial Day? I have never been,
but have heard it is a good time.
